About Regnery Publishing
Welcome to Regnery Publishing, the country’s leading publisher of conservative books. Since Henry Regnery founded the company back in 1947, we’ve focused on publishing books that challenge the status quo, books that spark a debate, and books that get people talking about the issues and questions we face as a country founded on principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility and free market capitalism.
From the very start, Regnery has been a major force within the conservative movement. In our early years, Regnery helped establish and sustain the postwar conservative intellectual movement in America, publishing such authors as Russell Kirk (The Conservative Mind), William F. Buckley Jr. (God and Man at Yale), Whittaker Chambers (Witness), and many other giants of modern American conservatism. After lighting a political firestorm in academia with Buckley’s God and Man at Yale in 1951, Henry started his own line of quality paperback classics called Regnery Gateway. The Gateway series ultimately grew to more than 200 titles, and included authors ranging from St. Augustine to Karl Marx, from Ambrose Bierce to the Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki, from Boethius to Carl von Clausewitz.
In 1993, Regnery Publishing became part of Eagle Publishing. Then, in 2014, Eagle Publishing became Salem Eagle under the umbrella of the media giant Salem Communications.
For the past decade, Regnery has led the resurgence of conservative publishing in America. Our list of authors reads like a “who’s who” of conservative thought and action, including Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Dinesh D’Souza, Newt Gingrich, Mark Steyn, Mark Levin, Ed Klein, David Horowitz, Laura Ingraham, Donald Trump, and many more. For the past 15 years, Regnery has boasted one of the best batting averages in the business–placing more than fifty books on the New York Times bestseller list, including nine books at #1.
In the past two years, we have branched out to welcome a broader audience. In addition to great conservative books, we also publish fascinating stories of America’s pastime with Regnery History. This new imprint brings new light to old subjects and introduces figures and topics that deserve attention, but may have been ignored in the past. Another exciting new expansion for Regnery has been our children’s imprint, Regnery Kids. With charming stories and beautiful illustrations, Regnery is teaching children about our history, our government, and our military, from Ronald Reagan to NORAD, from pilgrims to presidential pets. Our children’s publishing program includes Little Patriot Press, a series of educational books for young readers about American government.
Since Regnery opened its doors back in 1947, the conservative movement has grown from a few intellectuals, economists, editorial writers, and authors to become the most vibrant political and intellectual movement in the country. Regnery Publishing has grown with the movement and is as central to the conservative movement today as it was more than 65 years ago.
The Story of the Regnery Gates
Regnery Publishing’s logo is the Porta Nigra, a Roman gate located in Trier, Germany. Wilhelm Regnery, a winemaker from near Trier, immigrated to the United States in the 1870s. When his grandson, Henry, founded a publishing company, he chose the massive Roman gate as the new company’s trademark–to represent his heritage, the passage from the uncivilized world of ignorance into civilization, and our legacy of Judeo-Christian faith and learning.
